As of Today, May 21, I don't have a router mount for my Dewalt DW618 at the moment so I taped a pen onto the Z-axis to test out the router (probably safer anyway) and ran a spiral program from one of Mach3's wizards. The results look pretty good to me, but you might notice some up and downticks of the circles at the top and bottom of the picture. I ran inside, programmed a quick hole pocketing operation and put my pipe on my router. I cut 0.005" per pass at 10ipm with a 2 flute carbide endmill. It took about 20 minutes to cut a 3/4" hole (mostly due to the pipe being round, so I had to cut about 0.2" deep). It turned out nice. When all is said and done, I have to say that I probably did not save a lot of money over buying a small turnkey cnc router from one of the eBay vendors, but I think I have a better machine. Work envelope : 650mm x 450mm x 125m . THK HSR20 rails , ISEL C7 ballscrews , MIC-6 aluminum plates , stepper motors , HF milling motor ( 300Hz , 18.000rpm , 750W ) .There are two ways to collect dust from your CNC. Brute force: Use a large enough system to overcome all the air turbulent your router creates. In this case you need to have a good seal around your stock (dust shroud) and use a lot of suction. Like connecting you 6” central shop vacuum to your dust hood. Use version 10 or 11 for the .dxf version. Check the box that says save text as curves. Then just import the .dxf into Mach3. Set the total depth using the layer buttin in Mach 3's .dxf import window. Once the g-code is created, use Mach3's Multipass option to cut the full depth in multiple shallow passes.
